Advantages:

  • major savings on
  labour costs
  • efficient use of
  propagation material
   • efficient use of costly
  rooting hormones
  • continual assessment and selection,
  with constant quality
  • less damage to cutting material

Rombomatic - an automatic cutting system that looks, judges and acts like an expert.

Taking cuttings for crop propagation is a very labour-intensive process. However, the Rombomatic can provide
an unprecedented improvement in efficiency.

This robot, which was developed especially for the floriculture industry, automates the entire propagation process, including critical quality assessment.

The result?
Enormous savings in costs, better quality plants and
pleasant working conditions in the greenhouse.

Look, assess, cut, powder, insert
The Rombomatic is used for propagating a range of floriculture and nursery products. The bulk plant material for taking cuttings is placed manually in grippers, which are then transported automatically to the robot modules. In the robot module, the gripper is moved vertically in front of a camera. The system determines whether the branch held by the gripper is suitable for taking cuttings. If that is the case, the robot takes a cutting from the branch, dips the cutting into the desired rooting hormone, and inserts it into a pot or tray. This is done precisely according to the programmed leaf orientation and insertion angle of the cutting

Higher quality, lower costs

The Rombomatic results in a better crop at a lower cost. The cutting process is extremely consistent, which leads to uniform batches of plants that root and grow more quickly and evenly.
